Mt elgon has the largest volcanic base in the world and it is the oldest and largest solitary, volcanic mountain in EastAfrica. It is 80km in diameter and the highest peak is wagagai which is 4321m high.

Mountain elgon is a home to over more than 300species of birds, including the endangered lammergeir also known as the bearded vulture, small antelopes, forest monkeys, elephants, buffaloes also live in the mountain side.
